At It Again.

Yes, I’m At It Again !

There in our living room I have set up a tripod and my camera and set it on video to record about an hour of our little guest in our Pine Tree.

If you have been reading the blog here, you must know by now that there is a Hummingbird nesting in our Pine Tree.  She is so tiny.  She is so cute.

It’s amazing just to watch her, she will sit there without it seems like moving a muscle, then she will take off in less than a split second.

I just home that if I continue to set up the camera each day, at different times, we will be so lucky to actually capture shots of the new little ones.  That’s what I’m hoping for.

Wish me luck!

More Video.

I was able to get more pictures of our Hummingbird that has taken up residency in the Pine Tree in our front yard.

This time its a short video of her and her mate. It’ on my other blog site, normradio.com.  I would have added the video here, but still have to add the plug-in so that can be done.

I’m not the one who takes care of that sort of thing, and my wife Karen is busy with other things right now, so a plug-in for Norm’s Notes is just going to have to wait.

Code.

It was about two days ago I mentioned a radio that I was looking into as I want to get back in the ranks of an active Amateur Radio Operator.

My current license has been good since 1993 but to be honest, I have not been on the air for at least 8 years.   I could tell you that it’s because I got married again, but I’m not that dumb.  It’s because the power rates went up.  Enough said.

I need to renew my ability with Morse Code.

I wonder if they have a section on Morse included in  medical coding training courses?

Thinking back, in school I was good at a few subjects, but not what anyone would call a scholar.  Those subject I liked, I would work on and found they were easy to pass.  If I didn’t like it, I would find ways to get out of working on them.  Passing, who cared.  I guess that’s why they didn’t accept me at Harvard.

About to Hatch?

As I announced yesterday, we have a Hummingbird nest right outside our front window in our Pine Tree.

I guess, soon, I will have to send out baby shower invitations to our friends and those in our neighborhood.

Now Karen and I have not been formally introduced to the mother to be, but considering that she has blessed our Pine Tree and front yard with the only Hummingbird Nest that I have seen in our neighborhood, it’s only fitting that we, my wife and I, treat her and the soon to be baby birds as part of our family.

Hummingbird.

Before we left for church this morning, Karen was sitting outside and in the Pine tree in our front yard, she saw a Hummingbird in a nest.  I came out and saw it too and off we went to church.

After going to church, going to lunch, we came home and came in the house.  Karen looked out our front window, and low and behold, she saw the Hummingbird nest.  ( That’s what we can see out the window from our living room.  This way we’ll be able to keep tabs on the Hummingbird family.

Back on the Air.

Yes, I’m a former Broadcaster with over 30 years on the air in Denver, Phoenix, and Las Vegas.  And lately I have been trying to figure out how to get back on the air.

No not as a broadcaster, but as an amateur.  I have my Amateur Radio License and have had one for year.

The unit below is a little rig that I will have to build and then add an antenna to the house so that I can transmit and receive from all over the world.  Luckily I don’t live in an area that has restrictions on antennas, so I can pretty much do what I want.  But, if you think I’m the type that will just put up anything, you are all wrong.  I know that antennas to many can be “Ugly”, but they are a needed part of any radio system.  And antennas can be installed so you can’t even see they unless you really know what you are looking for and get up very very close.  They can even be as simple as a Flag Pole.

The biggest problem I face is not the looks of an antenna, but making it safe with all the power poles and power lines surrounding my property, and telephone lines coming into our house.  I don’t want my antenna any where near either.

Glad I could be there.

Today, my wife had to go to the Dentist.  It’s something that has taken several months and she has not been having fun, and has not been able to eat what she normally likes.  That in itself has cause problems.

But today it was to the Dentist.  Without getting into a lot of detail, she spent and hour and a half  in the chair.  I had left the building and spent that time, sitting in our van, first reading Amateur Radio Magazines then listening to the radio.

When she was done, I received a call on my cell phone, and I went in to help her come back to the van.

We had no sooner got in the van, and she said that she wanted a Milk Shake.

If you know me, as far as I’m concerned…What Karen wants, Karen Gets.  One Milk Shake coming up.   In this case we drove to Red Robin at Tempe Market Place.  There Loretta and Jani took care of us.   Loretta made Karen a Banana Shake.    I had a 5 Alarm Burger.

Karen liked her shake and I liked the burger, which by the way is no longer on the menu.

Lunch was great, but you know what made me really happy, that I was there for Karen before she went in and when she came out.  And I’m here at home with her now.

That’s where a husband should be for his wife.

Spending the Day at Home.

I am one of those guys who doesn’t pay much attention to the Weather forecast.  I take each day as it comes.

If it’s Hot, I live with it.

If it’s Cold, I put on a coat, if needed and live with it.

If it Rains, I stay under the carport getting to the van, or dress appropriately, so I don’t get wet, and live with it.  OR….I stay at home.

To do that doesn’t bother me a bit.

I do not get “Cabin Fever”.

As long as there is food in the fridge, I’m a happy camper.

The computer sure makes it easier to stay at home, and once I get back on the air as an Amateur Radio operator, the computer can say goodbye.

Great Start.

Karen and I had a great start to our week today, we went back to Eldorado Park.  Karen had some lunch, and we both sat there and talked and watched all of the birds there.

Last week Karen brought with her a book on “Arizona Birds” and it was fun to watch and then see if they matched those in the book.  It was surprising how many we were able to pick out, and just as surprising of how many we weren’t sure  could match up with those in the book.

It really didn’t matter which way it came out, if it was a match, we had fun, if we didn’t match if was fun too.

To top it off today, the Scottsdale Day was gorgeous.  Temp was just right.  Not much of a breeze.  And to top all of that,  we more of less had the park to ourselves.

Not Today.

Both my wife and I thought about it, and then together decided that we would not go back to Eldorado Park.  Even though we both had a lot of fun on the visits over the last 3 days.

Yesterday we saw and talked to a man who was fishing.  I haven’t fished since the late 50s at a ranch just outside of Denver that was my Dad’s.  We would go up on the weekends and spend all our time either on the small lake that was there or on the South Platte River that wound it’s way through the valley the ranch was in, near Pine, Colorado.  Those were fun times.

Just like the visits to Eldorado Park here in Scottsdale Arizona.
