More Tears.
Yesterday was a sad day for Karen and I, it should have been happy but both of us spent part of the day with tears streaming from our eyes.
I have taken Karen to the Maricopa Animal Adoption Center that is in the Old Town Scottsdale Pets mart for the last 8 or 9 weeks, looking for a cat. Several months ago, Karen lost Miss Ellie, her cat of 18 years.
On Friday, at the adoption center there was a young cat that reacted to Karen and yes even to me, the way Karen wanted.
Karen asked if a hold could be placed on the cat until the day her disability check came, and gave the person in with her and the cat the date. She said no, but even before she had ended her sentence, she started saying that it was available to hold a pet for 24 hours. That meant that we could come back on Saturday about 1:30 PM in the Afternoon and pick up the cat.
We were also told that the fee, would be $20.00 less based on how long the cat had been at the center. We asked several more questions and left excited about returning Saturday and taking the baby cat to her new home.
Saturday, with the house ready for the new arrival, we drove the short distance to Pets Mart and the Maricopa County Adoption Center.
Karen went in first as I got a little Cat Carrier from the van and brought it in. Getting to the Adoption Center, I could see Karen trough the glass door where the baby cats were kept with a tearful look on her face.
The adoption center had let some one else have the cat. We had left our card with our name and phone number and email addresses for both of us, so there were several ways to have contacted us before allowing some one else to take this “held” cat.
I had seen what looked like a note along with our card being clipped to the cat’s papers before we left Friday.
I opened the door and could hear a woman telling Karen that they “did not hold animals”. The person who had “Held” our cat was of course not there. I asked to see the manager, and was more or less ignored while the woman moved away from both Karen and I and started talking with other people.
Turns out that this particular woman had “helped” Karen several times as she looked for a cat, but yesterday the last thing on her minds was treating Karen or I with any even minor respect.
I called the Pets Mart Manager from home about 30 minutes later, and after calling twice and being on hold for 10 minutes a time, finally got to speak to him. He made sure that I was aware that Pats Mart had absolutely no connection with the Adoption Center and that the people who worked there did not report to him. When asked about all of the free things that were included when adopting a dog or cat that came directly from pets mart, he quickly attempted to change the subject. Leaving me with even more of a bitter taste.
They could have called, but they didn’t. Thinking about it, I can only imagine that someone there decided that the center was better off with the full fee for adopting the cat on Friday than honoring the hold until Saturday when the fee would drop the $20.00.
The tears are gone, but I remember what they felt like and most likely will have them in my heart for a long time.
Driving Home.
We were driving home from Patsy Grimaldi’s in Old Town Schools on Sunday and were stopped by the light at Scottsdale Road and McDowell Road, and I looked to the traffic that was to my left.
Sitting there was a Black Chrysler 300 that was at a complete stop. However the two wheels that I could see, were still M O V I N G, I was unique and kinda of exciting to say the least.
I’m thinking of checking decorsa custom wheels , see if they have 4 for a 2002 Dodge Caravan.
I think it’s about time that people start remembering our 9 year old dirty blue van for something besides being DIRTY.
My Businesses.
Over the years, I have owned and operated several businesses in different fields and found that using using conference calls for business helped a great deal.
It didn’t matter if I was selling two-way radios, or cell phones or renting wheelchair vans or providing audio and video production, being able to use the office phone and talk with prospective clients seem to put my capabilities where the client could immediately know, I knew what I was talking about.
Handicap Parking.
Have an Idea.
Karen and I work at different ends of our house. She’s in the front, I’m in the back. Now don’t get the idea that this is a HUGE house, but with me not hearing that well, it’s not easy to hear if she calls me. And she can’t really hear me from my office down the hall.
I just has a thought, idea. Why not look at digital baby monitors and find one that we could use. At least one of us would be able to hear the other.
This Time, it’s the Radiator.
In some ways I just can’t believe all the things that have gone wrong with our van.
Couple weeks ago, the Fuel Pump. Today it’s the radiator.
Wonder if the auto service center I took it to has a symbol barcode scanner that they used to determine the radiator that was required.
Our first clue was the puddles of fluid that were under the front of the van. I suppose I should expect such things. The van has almost 100,000 miles on it. I really have don’t next to nothing on it, other than an oil change ever 3,000 miles or so.
My motto has been, if it works, don’t mess with it.
The puddles, overheating even in Arizona heat two Sundays ago, that’s enough for me.
Replace it…Please!
Even in the H E A T !
I love driving around the Valley of the Sun (Phoenix Metro Area) even when the temperature is above 105. And that it has been the last 30 days.
The other day I was amazed to see several steel buildings had been built where just a short time ago the property had been empty.
While I have never been involved in construction, I have always enjoyed watching as buildings have been put up. I also find in interesting at the different looks to such buildings.
Last Year.
It’s funny how things pop into memory when you least expect them. I was thinking about the people who came by our house Halloween Night.
Maybe it would be fun to have a party that night, and I should sent out Halloween invitations
I have always thought it would be fun to dress up a Halloween to just answer the door for those out trick or treating.
To me, the scarier the better.
